I have always been an active person. I played sports from a young age and grew up in a rural neighborhood so we walked or rode our bikes everywhere. After graduating high school I was lost without sports to provide my physical activity. I began to work out at the local YMCA. After moving from my small hometown of Port Angeles, WA to Sacramento, CA I began exercising more consistently. I started jogging and riding my bike on a regular basis. In addition to running, I returned to my athletic roots and joined a coed indoor and an women's outdoor soccer team. I maintain an active lifestyle through jogging, soccer, and in my job as a physical education teacher. My husband and I exercise together and try to involve our son as much as possible. Exercise keeps me sane in my busy, busy life!
I am a physical education teacher at Riverside Meadows Intermediate School in Plumas Lake, CA, a small 6th-8th grade school with an enrollment of about 340. I also teach our student leadership class. I have been with the district for 9 years. I enjoy teaching very much and, except for motherhood, can't think of any job that is better suited for me. I work hard to provide a quality physical education for all of my students. I also try to model the same qualities for my students that I do for my son. I use "teachable moments" to promote self-sufficiency, respect, responsibility, compassion, patience, and hard work.
